Migration & onboarding

Migration without unnecessary risk.

Book a free technical review. You receive a documented overview of your current environment, a detailed migration plan, and a fixed-price proposal, with no obligation to proceed. Responsibilities, scope, and pricing are defined for each step.

Migrations usually fail because of the surrounding process, not the technology

Assumptions, communication gaps, and unclear responsibilities cause downtime. Our four-step process surfaces these risks before go-live, turning the move into a planned event rather than a difficult overnight exercise.

1

Review

We begin with a free 30–60-minute technical review to inventory your systems, dependencies, SLA requirements, data volumes, and maintenance windows. The goal is to understand your environment, not to sell you a solution.

Time: 30-60 min
Cost: Free
Result: Current environment documented
2

Migration plan

You receive a detailed written migration plan covering responsibilities, the step-by-step schedule, risks and mitigations, rollback procedures, a cost estimate, and the recommended Cygrids configuration. You can review the plan internally and decide whether and when to proceed.

Delivery: 3-7 business days
Cost: Fixed price, quoted in advance
Result: Documented plan
3

Move & verification

We carry out the migration according to the plan, initially running environments in parallel where appropriate before cutting over during the agreed window. We verify functionality, performance, dependencies, and backups before go-live. If anything does not go as expected, the rollback plan is ready.

Time: Varies; planned in advance
Downtime: Minimized and often zero
Result: Tested and verified environment
4

Operations & support

Once you are in production, we take over operations, monitoring, backup, and support according to the agreement. You get a named technical contact during the transition period and a weekly check-in for the first four weeks before we move into normal operations.

Transition: 4 weeks with check-ins
Support: According to the agreement
Result: Stable operations

Clear responsibilities, no assumptions

The most common cause of migration problems is an unclear division of responsibilities. This is how we typically allocate the work. The exact RACI matrix is confirmed in step 2 of the migration plan.

Where you are coming from - what we most often see

Every migration is unique, but the patterns are not. Here are four scenarios we handle regularly: from hyperscalers, international budget providers, other Swedish providers, or self-operated infrastructure.

From public cloud

AWS / Azure / GCP → Cygrids

Organizations may consider moving from a public cloud when they need more predictable costs, Swedish data residency, or local technical support.

  • Eliminate unpredictable data egress charges
  • Swedish data sovereignty and lower latency
  • Predictable costs based on the agreed configuration
What Cygrids does
  • Technical review of the existing stack
  • Migration plan with timeline and risk assessment
  • Parallel operations during the move
  • Verification before you close the cloud account
From international providers

Hetzner / OVH → Cygrids

Common when you need Swedish jurisdiction, clear SLA terms, and technical support in Swedish without giving up price transparency.

  • Swedish-speaking technical support
  • Clearly defined SLA terms
  • The same approach to pricing: transparent and reasonable
From a Swedish provider

GleSYS / Telia / Bahnhof → Cygrids

You are satisfied with data residency in Sweden but want better pricing, more control, or more personalized support.

  • Personal contact and shorter decision paths
  • Transparent pricing without bundled operations
  • The same Swedish jurisdiction, just a different partner
What Cygrids does
  • Direct import of VM images or data transfer with rsync
  • Minimal operational disruption during the transition
From your own server room / on-prem

Your own server room → Cygrids

The hardware is starting to age and you want to avoid responsibility for power, cooling, and physical security.

  • Move your hardware into Co-Location
  • Or migrate to our hardware
  • Hybrid operation during the transition
What Cygrids does
  • Co-Location option: your hardware in our data center
  • Or replace the hardware with a managed service

We migrate to the right service - you choose the level

Whether you need dedicated hardware, virtual servers, or Co-Location, the migration process is the same.

Answers before you ask

What we are most often asked about migration: time, cost, downtime, and responsibility.

What does a migration cost?
Step 1, the review, is always free. Steps 2-4 are quoted at a fixed price based on the scope of the environment after the review: no hourly rates, no "it depends." For business agreements, steps 2-4 are usually included in the overall solution.
How much downtime should we expect?
For most web and application environments, downtime is zero or just a few minutes. We run in parallel and switch during a planned window. Databases and stateful systems require more planning but usually stay under 30 minutes. The exact time is confirmed in the migration plan.
Can we keep our tools and processes?
Yes. We offer standard APIs, support Terraform, Ansible, and common CI/CD tools, and adapt to your processes. The goal is to change infrastructure, not force a tooling change.
What happens if something goes wrong during the move?
Every migration plan includes a rollback plan. If verification in step 3 fails, we return to the old environment without putting customer data at risk and identify the root cause before the next attempt. You do not pay extra for additional rounds caused by our part of the work.
Do you also help with application-level configuration?
Yes, to the extent you want. We support standard stacks such as Linux, Windows, Docker, databases, and web servers, and can take broader responsibility if you want, or stay at the infrastructure layer if you prefer to own the application yourselves.
How quickly can we start?
We can usually schedule the technical review within a few business days. From review to completed migration plan takes 3-7 business days. Once you approve the plan, the move itself can usually begin within 1-2 weeks depending on complexity.
