Co-Location

Co-Location: when is it the right choice?

Co-Location is a good fit when you want to own the hardware without managing the supporting infrastructure: power, cooling, physical security, connectivity, and site access.

Retain control of your hardware

With Co-Location, you usually own or control the servers, network equipment, and licenses. It suits environments where specialist hardware, regulatory requirements, or existing investments make rented infrastructure less appropriate.

At the same time, you eliminate your reliance on an in-house server room with limited resilience.

Move the operating environment while retaining ownership

The data center provider supplies the physical environment, dual independent power feeds, cooling, connectivity, and access procedures. You still need to plan backups, monitoring, patching, and the division of responsibilities.

This makes Co-Location a middle ground between hosting equipment on your own premises and renting a fully managed infrastructure platform.

Calculate the total cost

Do not compare rack-space costs alone. Include power, connectivity, remote hands, travel time, spare parts, insurance, resilience, and the risk of running equipment in rooms that were not designed as data centers.

When the total cost and risk are considered, Co-Location is often a more compelling option than continuing to expand an in-house server room.
